Chapter 9: Fitting Our Tools to a Small World

12 Dec

And with that we come to the end…well nearly, this chapter is second to last. Anyway, tonight’s chapter was all about what Shirky called ” Small World Networking” a term he used to describe networks formed among “Friends of Friends.” Say John knows Amanda who knows Tim but perhaps John doesn’t know Tim, there is then a high likelihood of John becoming introduced to Tim, especially through networks such as Facebook, Dodgeball, etc.

*Sigh* gone are the days when a person gave a dinner and invited all of their friends and then some, it was a much more elegant way to become introduced. However, in the absence of such parties, technology is a great way to make new friends, although once the connection is made there should be no replacement(With exceptions) for person-to-person contact.
